Frequently asked questions

Why do images download as WebP?

WebP is Google's web image format, typically 25-35% smaller than JPG at the same quality, so most large sites serve it. Browsers show it fine, but many upload forms, older photo editors, Windows Photo Viewer and print shops still expect JPG or PNG.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Your browser decodes the WebP and encodes the JPG locally. The files stay on your device, and the page works offline once loaded.

Will quality drop when going from WebP to JPG?

Both formats are lossy, so a second encode adds a small amount of loss. At quality 0.9 it is not visible. Expect the JPG to be somewhat larger than the WebP.

What happens to transparent WebP images?

JPG cannot store transparency. Transparent areas are filled with white. If you need to keep transparency, use WebP to PNG instead.

Does it work with animated WebP?

Only the first frame is converted, because JPG is a still image format.

What are the free limits?

The free plan allows 3 files per run, 20 MB per file and 10 runs per day. Pro removes these limits.
