How it works

- Set the WebP quality. 0.8 matches a typical JPG at quality 85 while producing a smaller file; 0.9 is close to lossless for photos.
- Press Convert to WebP. Your browser decodes the JPG and encodes WebP locally in a Web Worker.

Frequently asked questions
- How much smaller will a WebP be than my JPG?
- For photographs, WebP is usually 25-35% smaller at equal visual quality. Pictures that were saved as high-quality JPGs from a camera often shrink even more once you pick a sensible quality.
- Are my photos uploaded?
- No. The conversion is done by your browser on your device. Nothing is sent anywhere, and the tool works offline.
- Does converting JPG to WebP lose quality?
- JPG is already lossy, and re-encoding adds a small additional loss. At quality 0.85 or higher the difference is not visible on screen. Keep your original JPGs as masters.
- Is EXIF metadata kept?
- No. The image is rebuilt from decoded pixels, so camera settings and GPS location are stripped. That is usually a plus for photos published online.
- Who can view WebP images?
- Every current browser, including Safari since version 14, plus Windows 11, macOS 11 and later, and Android. Some older desktop software still needs JPG.
- What are the free limits?
- The free plan allows 3 files per run, 20 MB per file and 10 runs per day. Pro removes these limits.
