Your files stay on your device

This tool runs entirely in your browser using WebAssembly. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is stored, and you can even turn off your internet connection before you start.

How it works

  1. Drop .heic or .heif photos onto the box, or choose them from your device. On an iPhone you can select them straight from the Photos app.
  2. The first time, a small WebAssembly HEIC decoder is fetched. After that everything runs locally, even offline.
  3. Set the JPG quality. 0.9 keeps the photo visually identical; 0.8 halves the size again for sharing by email or chat.
  4. Press Convert to JPG and download the photos one by one or as a ZIP.

Frequently asked questions

What is a HEIC file and why will it not open?
HEIC is the container Apple uses for photos taken on iPhone and iPad since iOS 11. It stores images with the HEVC codec, which Windows, older Android phones, many web uploaders and most email clients cannot read without extra codecs. JPG is understood by everything.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. HEIC decoding runs in your browser using a WebAssembly decoder that is downloaded once on first use. The photos themselves never leave your device.
Will the JPG look worse than the original?
HEIC is already a lossy format, and JPG at quality 0.9 adds no visible loss. JPG files are usually about twice the size of the HEIC because HEVC compresses more efficiently.
Is the EXIF data, like date and location, kept?
The image is re-encoded from decoded pixels, so EXIF metadata such as GPS coordinates and camera settings is not carried over. This is often desirable when sharing photos publicly.
What are the free limits?
The free plan allows 3 files per run, 20 MB per file and 10 runs per day. Pro removes these limits.
