Example

Example: a school choir’s seven songs from a WAV recorder joined into one MP3 for parents

A music teacher recorded the spring concert on a handheld recorder, one WAV file a song: track01.wav to track07.wav, 30 to 46 MB each. That is over the general 20 MB but inside this tool’s free 150 MB a file. Settings: Save as MP3, 192 kbps, pause 2 s.

  1. Drop the seven files and check the list against the programme; move any with the arrows. The top file plays first.
  2. Each file is decoded and all are brought to one sample rate. They are stereo, so the result is stereo.
  3. 2 seconds of silence go between songs: six pauses, none before the first song or after the last.
  4. Select Merge audio: track01-joined.mp3 downloads, named after the first file in the list.
Song Length Starts at
track01.wav 3:120:00
track02.wav 2:483:14
track03.wav 4:056:04
track04.wav 3:3010:11
track05.wav 2:5513:43
track06.wav 4:2016:40
track07.wav 3:4121:02
Whole concert 24:43

One MP3 of 24:43 and about 35.6 MB (192 kbps is 24,000 bytes a second) to share with parents by link; at 128 kbps it would be about 23.7 MB. The start times make a ready track list for the description.

How it works

  1. Drop two or more audio files onto the box: MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG, FLAC and others.
  2. Use the arrows in the file list to put them in the order they should play.
  3. Choose the format and the bit rate, and a short pause between the files if they should not run straight into each other.
  4. Select Merge audio and download the file.

Frequently asked questions

Can I join files of different formats?
Yes. Every file is decoded and the sound is written again as one file in the format you choose, so an MP3, an M4A and a WAV can be joined together. Files recorded at different sample rates are brought to one.
What if some files are mono and some stereo?
The result is stereo, and a mono file plays equally in both ears, so it sounds as it did.
Is the quality lost?
MP3 and M4A are compressed again, which at 192 kbps and above is not something you will hear. Choose WAV to keep the sound exactly, at the cost of a much larger file.
In what order are the files joined, and what is the result called?
In the order of the list, top first; use the arrows to change it before you merge. The result is named after the first file with -joined added, such as track01-joined.mp3.
Is there a pause at the start or the end?
No. The pause you choose goes only between files: seven files with a 2 s pause get six pauses, 12 seconds in all. With None, each file runs straight into the next.
Is anything uploaded, and what are the free limits?
Nothing is uploaded; the files are joined in your browser. The free plan joins up to 20 files of 150 MB each, 5 times a day. Pro removes these limits.
