Example
Example: a domino run played backwards so the dominoes stand back up
A phone video of a domino run falling: dominoes.mp4, 1920 × 1080 pixels at 60 frames a second, 8 seconds long. Played backwards, the dominoes leap up one after another. Sound: “Reverse the sound too”, so the clatter runs backwards as well.
- Drop the clip and press Reverse. All 480 frames (8 seconds × 60) are read first, then written again from the last to the first, each shown for as long as before.
- The longest side is already 1920 pixels, so the size stays 1920 × 1080; a 4K clip would come out at 1920 × 1080.
| Clip | Frames | Reversed here? |
|---|---|---|
| 8 s at 60 fps (this one) | 480 | Yes |
| 45 s at 30 fps | 1,350 | Yes |
| 45 s at 60 fps | 2,700 | No — trim it to 30 s first |
| 75 s at 24 fps | 1,800 | Yes, just |
dominoes-reversed.mp4: 8 seconds, Full HD, backwards with the sound reversed, no watermark. The limit is 1,800 frames, because every frame is held in memory at once; a longer clip is refused before anything starts.
How it works
- Drop an MP4 or MOV clip.
- Choose whether the sound is reversed with the picture or left out.
- Press Reverse and download the new video.
Frequently asked questions
- How long a clip can it take?
- About a minute at 30 frames a second. Every frame has to be held in memory before the last one can be written first, so longer clips are refused rather than failing halfway; trim it first if you need part of a long video.
- Is the sound reversed as well?
- Yes, unless you turn it off — the samples are turned round with the frames, which is what makes reversed speech sound the way it does.
- Is there a watermark?
- No.
- Which browsers work?
- Chrome and Edge on a computer or Android, and Safari 16.4 or newer.
- Why is my 4K video smaller after reversing?
- Every frame has to be held in the browser’s memory at the same time, so the picture is brought to at most 1920 pixels on its longest side: 3840 × 2160 becomes 1920 × 1080. A clip already that size or smaller keeps its size.
- Is my video uploaded?
- No. The frames are decoded, turned round and encoded again in your browser, so the video never leaves your device. The free plan takes clips up to 150 MB each.
