Example: the reverse-singing challenge with a 7-second voice note
Record yourself singing a short line as a voice note — an M4A of 7 seconds — and add it with “Save as” on Same as the original.
- Press reverse: every sample is played in the opposite order at the same rate, so the file still lasts 7 seconds, at the same pitch.
- Download voice-note-reversed.m4a and learn to sing what you hear.
- Record your attempt, add it and reverse it again: if you copied it well, the original line comes back, recognisably.

Reversing twice gives back the original, because only the direction changes; each MP3 or M4A save re-encodes it, so choose WAV for a file you will reverse again and nothing is lost on the way.

Frequently asked questions
- Does reversing change the speed or pitch?
- No. The samples are played in the opposite order at the same rate, so it lasts exactly as long and sits at the same pitch. Only the direction changes.
- What is it good for?
- The reverse-singing challenge (reverse a phrase, learn to sing it backwards, reverse that), checking a song for a backmasked message, or a reversed cymbal or piano as a swell into a video cut.
- Can I reverse the sound of a video?
- This page takes audio. To reverse a whole clip, sound and picture, use the reverse video tool.
- Why does an OGG or FLAC come back as MP3?
- With Same as the original, MP3, M4A and WAV stay as they are; other files are saved as MP3, which plays everywhere. Choose WAV to keep every detail of a FLAC.
- Can I reverse just part of a song?
- Cut that part out first with the trim audio tool, then reverse the piece here — the usual way to make a reversed word or cymbal as a sound effect.
- Is my recording uploaded?
- No. It is reversed in your browser.
